On this episode, Travis talks with clinical psychologist, researcher, and adjunct professor at the University of Texas School of Medicine at San Antonio, William Elder, Ph.D. Will specializes in trauma work with men, specifically with those who are navigating the effects of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Together they discuss what it's like to be gay mental health providers focused on men and masculinity and the importance of quality therapeutic relationships for men who have experienced trauma. Other topics discussed include: what our communities (specifically religious communities) teach us about who we need to be, his seeking journey that led him into reparative therapy, balancing professional identities with the wholeness of our humanity, the cross over between masculine norms and dissociation, therapeutic relationships with men, and the power within non-traditional gender identities.
